First off, I'm not dead.  Had a lot of RL stuff to get done (nothing bad, thankfully, just time consuming).  Now I'm working on a couple of challenges that are coming due in the next month or so.  So there will be posts, I swear, but not for just a bitty bit.  Also, ahem:

Art made for [livejournal.com profile] sgareversebang, story by [livejournal.com profile] mific (lj)
Link to the story: HERE
Story Title:
Service Before Self
Story Summary: A mission goes badly wrong, Rodney is lost and his team, in various ways, come to his rescue. But who is the mysterious woman trying to win Rodney over, and will she have her way with him? A team-based adventure with a touch of the supernatural, because the stuff of legends on Earth may not be so strange, in Pegasus.
Disclaimer: I do not own Stargate: Atlantis or any of the screencaps or promo pictures used in these manips. Other images were found in a google image search. Further credit for images can be found in my Manip Credit Post.
Notes: I did these pieces for the sgareversebang, and this post is titled by the art's collective name, not by story title.  I hope the author enjoyed working with my art!

Prompt: Crowley goes into a bar and meets… Darth Vader!
Fandoms: Supernatural/Star Wars (Original Trilogy)
Word count: ~1500
Rating/Contents: PG-13; SPOILERS for Supernatural season 11.
Disclaimer: I don't own Supernatural, Star Wars, or any related characters. Making no money here, as they all still belong to their prospective owners.
Summary: Crowley's had a rotten time of it lately, and a certain Dark Lord's appearance in an already strange place doesn't make it any better. Written for [livejournal.com profile] intoabar.

Note:  So I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] couples20in20 for the first time and chose Snape/Hermione as my couple.  It's been a while since I've done any work in the HP fandom, but this is a longtime fave couple of mine.  And doing these icons only reminded me of that.  Also, my David Bowie tribute is very interpretive.  I hope you enjoy!

Real life is crazy stuff, right?  Yeah, so I'm trying to get back into fandom stuff.  My poor carpal tunnel-ridden hands are finally starting to feel much better.  As you might have noticed way, way earlier in my postings, I've started a new comm.  I hadn't quite opened it yet, but announcing now, it is open!!  The official posting will start on May 1st, which should give plenty of time for discussion of themes (I believe I already have one in mind for May, but I'm always looking for ideas!) and signing up to get author tags.  Please pimp it out for me!

EDIT: Also, if anyone knows any comm here that would permit me to pimp this out, please suggest away!!

Fandom: Darkwing Duck
Disclaimer: I don't own Darkwing Duck or the images used here.  Credit for textures, brushes, etc. used can be found at my spiffy Manip Credit Post.

Note:  So I signed up for character20n20 again and chose Darkwing Duck as my character this time.  I'm still trying to get my hands back into working condition, so while I'm trying to jump back into the fandom fray, it's still slow go.  I'm also in the middle of a move.  Couple of extra notes: the song lyrics are from Skillet's "Hero."  And funny story about the "crossover" icon, I am actually in the middle of writing a Supernatural/Darkwing Duck crossover, so when I saw where someone else had chosen Dean Winchester as their claim, I couldn't resist!

Note:  So I signed up for character20n20 again after taking some time off to rest my carpal tunnel riddled hands, and chose Tyrion as my character this time.  I'm still trying to get my hands back into working condition, so while I'm trying to jump back into the fandom fray, it's still slow go.  But, I hope you all enjoy my offerings!

First two books marked off the list!  So, here we go:

A Book Translated to English: For this one, I read Vampire Hunter D: Scenes from an Unholy War.  I've been a longtime fan of the VHD series, and like with any long-running series there are going to be some hits and misses.  This one was somewhere in between for me.  I didn't love it (it was no Journey to the North Sea) but I didn't hate it either.  My main problem was simply this: it didn't have enough D in it.  I find that odd, given the obvious.  But yeah, I feel like the author focused more on these two other characters (who, like in every other D book, will likely never been seen again) rather than on D.  Interesting, but I've read better from this series.

A Book Written by a Celebrity: Okay, I may be pulling a bit of a cheat here.  For this, I read Remember the Time: Protecting Michael Jackson in His Final Days.  While I'm aware it was written by his personal body guards and not MJ himself--obviously--I'm still gonna count it.  These guys got celebrity status back when MJ died, just like anyone else who was close with the King of Pop.  So I'm counting it.  Anyway, the book itself was a very interesting read.  It has mixed reviews online, but in the end, I liked the voice it was written in, and there was a hint of honesty about it.  Whether it was all true or not, very few will ever know, but I enjoyed it.

Well, here it is.  The 2016 Reading Challenge.  I've already completed one book, but I'll leave that for another post.  Anyone got any recs?
patriciatepes: (darkwillow)

So... I didn't make all the prompts, obviously.  But I'm updating till the very end!  Here's the one's I've added:

Mystery or Thriller-- I decided to go classic with this one and read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles.  I practically grew up with Sherlock Holmes being a household name due to my mother's love of mysteries.  And while I love a good mystery, usually I require a little something attached to it (magic or some other fantastical element).  But I've never needed this for Sherlock.  I've loved these stories for a while, and while I had read A Study in Scarlet some years ago, I had never read Hound.  So now I have.  What can I say about it?  It's classic Sherlock and I loved it.

A Book from an Author You Love But Haven't Read Yet-- I counted Beka Cooper: Mastiff for this one.  It's taken me a long time to get to this book, the end of a trilogy, but thanks to a great price and a thoughtful friend, I have it marked down as read.  It was a great end with interesting characters, and sort of read like a giant chase scene.  Kidnap and intrigue abound, and I still loved this one more than the first one in the series.  But I still thing the second one in the series was the best.

A Book You Own But Have Never Read-- I counted The Resturant at the End of the Universe for this one, by Douglas Adams and apart of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series.  I'll admit that these books aren't for everyone, and they are all rather short and a quick read.  Nothing much ever really happens in the either, but if you're ever looking for a sci-fi comedy that's quick to pass, I'd reccommend this.

And lastly, A Book Based On or Turned into a TV Show-- I read Game of Thrones for this.  I'm a long-time watcher of the series, but had never picked up the books (I know, shame on me).  While I still love the series--and yes, don't hate me, but even the changes that I have seen so far I enjoy--I really found this book entertaining to read.  I was ahead of it, tv show-wise, but actually being able to be in the character's heads, so to speak, made it seem like a whole new story.  If you're into epic fantasies but want something that still feels a bit more down to Earth--which, despite the dragons, we should all agree it does seem very approachable to those who cringe at magic-filled fantasy stories covered with elves and trolls--I recommend this one.

So, now that 2015 is over in a matter of hours--on my end of the world, anyway--it's obvious that I'm not finishing this challenge.  I simply didn't budget my reading time right.  But, I've found the 2016 reading challenge and I think I'm doing this again.  I'll post it here, blank to begin with, so others who might want to can join.

Happy New Years!

Fandom: Supernatural
Disclaimer: I don't own Supernatural or the images used here.  Credit for textures, brushes, etc. used can be found at my spiffy Manip Credit Post.

Note:  So I signed up for character20n20 again, and chose Castiel as my character this time (with Tyrion Lannister as my second choice).  My carpal tunnel has been giving me hell, so I apologize for my AC set.  My heart wasn't really in them, so I can't really judge how they turned out.  Also, I know my "sexy" was a bit unorthodox, but twisted-slinky and I have both, long ago, agreed that this was one of the hottest scenes in the show.  ...There may be something wrong with us.  Lastly, I'll be skipping iconing next month in favorite of participating in NaNoWriMo.  If anyone out there is also participating and looking for buddies, I'll happily add you!  My name over there is PatriciaLouise.

Did this one, and I gotta say, I think the top five are pretty accurate.  Meg and Abaddon need to be reversed, I think.  And maybe Rowena and Charlie.

Join me?  Also... I'm thinking of starting a new comm.  Tentatively, I think I'll call it "31 Days of Fandom."  Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] twistedshorts August Fic-a-Day, I thought, "Why just August?"  So, each month of the year with 31 days will have a theme.  These will vary.  It will mostly allow several different forms of fanworks (fic, art, etc.) except for a few special months which may only ask for one kind.  It will be open fandom, again, except for a few special months.  And, for each 31 days, you must make one post a day with some sort of fanwork for that theme.  If you do all 31 days, you'll get a banner at the end.  If you do more, we'll do an honorable mention.  If you don't finish... well, at least that's more wonderful works for your chosen fandoms out there.  What does everyone think about this idea?  I'm testing the waters.
